Annual Spoleto FestivalIf you want natural beauty, you won’t be disappointed by a visit to Charleston, South Carolina. The city is known for its lovely nature, as well as its collection of beautiful historic buildings which make quite an impression on both visitors and natives alike. These things combined with the generous number of stunning venues and the area’s love for the arts make Charleston the perfect location for the annual Spoleto Festival.

The Spoleto Festival was created in 1977 as an American counterpart to Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy. The festival was founded largely by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Gian Carlo Menotti and Christopher Keene. The two gentlemen sought a place that would offer just as much charm, beauty, and space as Spoleto, and Charleson was the perfect location. Now the program has run for 40 years, providing Charleston natives and visitors a place to catch everything from theatre premiers, symphonies, jazz, opera, dance, and more.

This year’s festival begins on May 26, 2017 and runs through June 11th and takes place at venues like the Charleston Gaillard Center, City Hall, and Dock Street Theatre, many of which are just a short drive from Palmetto Ford Lincoln. Visitors can catch things like the US premiere of Vivaldi’s opera Farnace, multiple performances of Waiting for Godot, the Charles Lloyd jazz quartet, and much, much more. Ford Among the World’s Most Ethical Companies

Ford is dedicated to taking responsibility for its practices and has consistently been named one of the world’s most ethical companies. This year marks the eighth in a row that the Ethisphere Institute has named Ford to the list. The Ethisphere Institute focuses on company involvement in sustainability and outside initiatives.

World's Most Ethical Companies

Ford has been named one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies for the eighth year in a row.

The top honor puts a focus on Ford’s good corporate citizenship. Factors for the American automaker’s placement include supply chain sustainability and progressive initiatives, like the Partnership for a Cleaner Environment.

“Strong ethics and corporate citizenship are the foundation of our business philosophy, which demonstrates to our customers what we stand for as a company,” said Bill Ford, Ford Motor Company Executive Chairman.

Ford aims to maintain long-term relationships with suppliers by actively engaging with them to meet the company’s standards. The automaker is also active in safe working conditions, monitoring human rights, and various other initiatives.

The World’s Most Ethical Companies is just the most recent prestigious list that Ford landed on.  Newsweek named the automaker the Top Green Company in 2016. Forbes named Ford America’s best Employer in 2016 as well. That’s just the tip of the iceberg!

We here at Palmetto Ford Lincoln are proud to see Ford ranking among the world’s most ethical companies!

Ford Gives $50k in Grants to High School STEAM Students

$50k in Grants to High School STEAM Students

Ford has its own STEAM program, only they’ve added the “A” to represent the arts, suggesting that creative design is just as important to the puzzle.

By now, you’ve probably heard of STEM education. These schools and programs put their focus on teaching kids how to use science, technology, engineering, and math. Kids learn about these areas on paper, but are also encouraged and shown how to apply them in real-life situations. Ford has its own STEAM program, only they’ve added the “A” to represent the arts, suggesting that creative design is just as important to the puzzle.

Ford STEAM recently paired up with Ford Next Generation Learning (NGL) to offer $50,000 in grants to students who showed particular dedication to using STEAM to improve their community. These students applied for the financial support from Ford by explaining how they could use the money along with their STEAM skills to make a change. Students needed to show strong leadership, an ability to partner with members of their community, and the capability to investigate what the “real world” needs to change for the better.

When Ford Gives $50k in grants, it’s not for nothing. The first place students won $20,000 and will use it to convert an F-Series truck to run on hydrogen fuel, plus build the solar energy farm that will power their hydrogen processor. Other winners have plans that include more solar energy stations plus mobile learning labs. The Ford STEAM grant inspires students to put their education to practical use that could change the world, just another reason why Palmetto Ford Lincoln feels proud to be connected to the Ford name.
