If you want natural beauty, you won’t be disappointed by a visit to Charleston, South Carolina. The city is known for its lovely nature, as well as its collection of beautiful historic buildings which make quite an impression on both visitors and natives alike. These things combined with the generous number of stunning venues and the area’s love for the arts make Charleston the perfect location for the annual Spoleto Festival.
The Spoleto Festival was created in 1977 as an American counterpart to Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy. The festival was founded largely by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Gian Carlo Menotti and Christopher Keene. The two gentlemen sought a place that would offer just as much charm, beauty, and space as Spoleto, and Charleson was the perfect location. Now the program has run for 40 years, providing Charleston natives and visitors a place to catch everything from theatre premiers, symphonies, jazz, opera, dance, and more.
This year’s festival begins on May 26, 2017 and runs through June 11th and takes place at venues like the Charleston Gaillard Center, City Hall, and Dock Street Theatre, many of which are just a short drive from Palmetto Ford Lincoln. Visitors can catch things like the US premiere of Vivaldi’s opera Farnace, multiple performances of Waiting for Godot, the Charles Lloyd jazz quartet, and much, much more. When Motor Trend chooses any of their “Of the Year” awards, they don’t take it lightly. It’s not just about a couple of judges picking their favorite vehicle. It’s about scrutinizing each entry with tests of engineering, strength, safety and value. So while it’s no wonder that the 2017 Super Duty truck is the Motor Trend Truck of the Year, it’s no simple victory either.
Part of what makes the 2017 Ford Super Duty stand out among its competitors is a combination of strength and smart features. The Ford Super Duty is made to be used for expert towing. Its towing power alone earned it some extra points. While the Ford F-350 stands out as the biggest and baddest, the F-250 is no modest contender, either. It offers up 430 lb-ft of torque, a 2,930 payload capacity and a 12,500 towing capacity.
The F-250 Super Duty truck was ranked high on the Motor Trend list not only for its power, but for its efficiency and its safety. The latter impressed the judges, thanks to an array of features like collision warning and trailer sway control. From top to bottom, inside and out, the 2017 Super Duty earned its Motor Trend Truck of the Year award.

A new vehicle, the BraunAbility MXV™, is a wheelchair-accessible SUV customized from the Ford Explorer. BraunAbility, a company that specializes in mobility vehicles, searched the SUV market to find an option before choosing the Explorer, the best-selling SUV in the United States over the past 25 years.
“For 25 years, the Explorer name has symbolized freedom and adventure, and the BraunAbility MXV adds another chapter to that story,” said Craig Patterson, Ford utility vehicle marketing manager.
The vehicle allows wheelchair users to drive the vehicle from their chairs or to be passengers in the MXV. Customizations from the traditional Explorer design include a lighted in-floor ramp, and measures to increase space within the wheelchair-accessible SUV.
Those in need of an improved mobility experience won’t have to wait long before they are able to buy an MXV. Production starts in August, and the MXV is anticipated to be on the market by fall 2015.
“The MXV is a revolutionary vehicle, and we’re thrilled with Explorer’s role in helping bring it to market,” Patterson said.
At Palmetto Ford, we’re happy to work with you to meet your car buying needs, whether you’re looking for a traditional Explorer, or something more specialized.
If you have trouble sleeping, the summer months can bring with them some of the worst nights of your year. Warmer temperatures that keep you up coupled with fewer hours of dark make for a difficult night’s sleep.
Here are some summer sleep tips to help you out:
- Skip the flannel; get some quality, cotton sheets for your bed.
- Wear loose, cool clothing that will make it easier for you to cool down.
- If your home is a bit warmer than you would like, purchase a fan to aim towards you while you sleep.
- Develop a sleep schedule and stick to it; this will make it much easier to fall asleep on time.
- Get in the habit of a bedtime ritual (such as brushing your teeth, etc.), which will signal to your brain that bedtime is approaching.
- Be sure to stay hydrated, as higher temperatures can cause excess perspiration. You won’t want to wake up with a dry mouth after you’ve finally drifted off.

It looks like Londoners aren’t quite ready to handle the upcoming Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R, based on a clever social experiment devised by the Detroit automaker. One of these stunning models was placed inconspicuously in public in London, just to see how people would react.
Naturally, the passersby were very surprised, with many stopping to take selfies with the incredible vehicle. You can even watch a YouTube video of their reactions, here, thanks to Ford Europe’s official channel. The clip gets even better when they start to rev the engine on the Shelby GT350R, openly frightening the pedestrians.
Any scared Brits needn’t worry, as the new Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R is only scheduled to get a release in North America. After checking out that video, it’s easy to say that we’re more excited for it than ever.

Talking and responding to your car is about to get an upgrade! Thanks for Ford Interior Harmony.
It’s no secret that most motorists talk to their cars. Taking this into consideration, Ford has developed a new language for your car to talk back in. No, we’re not talking about Siri or HAL 9000, but rather a new range of alert noises to keep you informed, without giving you a headache.
Ford is designing vehicle alerts to make sure you’re getting the messages. A new engineering group, called Ford Interior Harmony, is now in charge of adding chimes, pings, illuminations, and other notifications to make sure you know what’s going on. You’ll never forget to buckle-up again, that’s for sure.
“Our inclination has been to add more sounds for more alerts, but people are getting chimed out,” said Jennifer Prescott, an engineer with the Vehicle Engineering Division. “Because of that, our audio alerts must be intuitive – instantly recognized by drivers.”
What noises, when? The sounds include things like the Belt Minder chime, Blind Spot Information System, Cross Traffic Alert, Collision Warning, and SYNC 3. Believe it or not, engineers are heavily researching these alerts and noises, ensuring they catch your attention, without bombarding you. This is just one more thing that sets Ford apart from other automakers.
